Meeting with Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation

April 3, 2019

After the official welcoming ceremony, the heads of state held talks in narrow and expanded formats.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev thanked Vladimir Putin for his congratulations and good wishes on assuming the office of President of Kazakhstan and noted the symbolism of his first foreign visit to the Russian Federation.

The Head of State stressed that modern interaction between Kazakhstan and Russia is standard and is intended to be a perfect example of relations.

- As the Head of Kazakhstan, I am committed to guarantee the continuity of the policy of the First President of Kazakhstan Nursultan A. Nazarbayev, as well as continue working on comprehensive and active development of Kazakhstan-Russian cooperation, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.

The President of Kazakhstan dwelt separately on the issues of economic partnership between the two countries, especially in energy, transport, transit, industry and space.

- Russia remains the “number one” partner in Kazakhstan’s foreign trade; its share in the commodity turnover of Kazakhstan is 19 percent. Investment cooperation is progressing. More than 9 thousand enterprises with the participation of Russian capital carry out successful activities in Kazakhstan, the Head of State emphasized.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has also stressed the symbolism of the first visit of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Russia as Head of State and noted the high level of Kazakh-Russian ties.

- You are aware of the level of our relations and have done a lot for that. In many ways, this, of course, is the merit of the First President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev. Of course, we are not just partners; we are the closest allies both through international organizations and bilaterally. Our relations are developing very effectively; we are achieving serious and noticeable results that affect the standard of living of our nations. I am sure that your visit today will strengthen our many-sided bilateral allied relations, Vladimir Putin said.

During the meeting, the heads of state have considered the issues of interstate cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian sphere as well, and exchanged views on topical issues of the regional and international agenda.
